Development Co-operation
Development Cooperation (DC) is an integral part of the foreign policy of the Netherlands. The main objective is poverty reduction. Dutch DC is geared towards sustainable development, i.e. development that meets the needs of present generations without compromising those of future generations.

ngokakheti.jpg (26 Kb)The Dutch policy for development cooperation and poverty reduction are outlined in the policy document entitled: “Adobe Acrobat PDF Mutual Interests, Mutual Responsibilities: Dutch development cooperation en route to 2015”. In this poliy document the Government of the Netherlands shows its continuous commitment to allocate 0,8% of its Gross National Product to Official Development Assistance (ODA).  Of this total budget, 15% is reserved for the sector education and the a Roadmap for the Dutch contribution to reach the Millenium Development Goals by the target date of 2015.

The total annual budgets for ODA are allocated to multilateral organisations (International Financial Institutions, UN), to specialised organisations working in the field of poverty reduction, and to bilateral development programmes with the so-called partner countries. In order to make optimal use of manpower and other resources, the Netherlands has limited the number of bilateral partner countries to 36.

Georgia and Armenia are both members of the Dutch constituency group at the World Bank and the IMF. For more information about the constituency group, please open the following link. Georgia is also a ‘partner country’ to the Government of the Netherlands and receives bilateral ODA assistance. Armenia still receives bilateral ODA assistance until 2010 but is no longer a ‘partner’ and recipient country for new ODA contracts at the delegated level of the Embassy.
